Design Plan for Our Primary Bedroom

If you’ve been following along on Instagram, you know I’ve been in the middle of a little refresher on our primary bedroom. This all started when we decided to switch the carpet out for the laminate flooring we have throughout the rest of our house. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for about 2 years now and I love how it turned out! I think it makes such a difference for the room – it feels bigger, nicer, more “primary bedroom” like. Our new flooring is a quite bit darker than the previous carpet was, so I knew I’d like to lighten things up a touch when it came to furniture and decor.

I want to create a space for us that is calming, serene, and elevated. Here’s my vision and design plan:

As we were putting our furniture back in, I decided to rearrange it a bit. Just doing that makes the space feel so much bigger and just different! I kept the majority of our furniture, but did decide to swap out our bed for a light upholstered one. For one, I wanted to lighten up at least one piece of furniture since our dresser and nightstands are so dark. Also, the kids love to jump and play on our bed, so the solid wood one always made me a little nervous for their little heads! We found a different place for that one. I ended up ordering the same bed we used to have because I loved it so much! I love the high back, the beautiful color, and the feel of the upholstery. It definitely feels more cozy and welcoming than the previous bed.

The only other thing I’m swapping out is my previous vanity desk (which is now Mike’s desk in his office) for a new vanity. After much searching and scouring the internet, I landed on this one. I like it! It’s hard to beat the price for the size and it’s something that can easily be a kids desk in a few years, if needed! I’ve refreshed some of our art, adding a new rug (the thing I was most excited about being able to do with getting rid of our carpet!), and switching our bedside lighting for plug-in sconces.

It’s about 75% finished already and I really love how it looks and feels. I’ll share a final reveal once I’m done with it all!
