Drugstore Mascara Comparison, Part Two

I had so much fun doing the first round of drugstore mascara testing, hence drugstore mascara comparison, round two! Just like the last time, I used the same mascara primer prior to wearing all three of these mascaras. As is true of everything else in beauty/fashion/life, what I like and works well for me may not be the same for you! Remember this is just my experience and thoughts using these products. There are great drugstore products out there, especially these days. You don’t need to spend $20+ on a mascara to get the look that you’re going for. Better yet, you can likely find two drugstore mascaras to use together for the same effect (and lower price point!) as a high-end brand mascara.

With that, let’s get into the three drugstore mascaras I tested:

L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black

If I remember correctly, this was the very first mascara I ever tried as a pre-teen! When applying it, I found the applicator wand to be a bit difficult to work with. I got a lot of product on my eyelid, just above my lash line. It’s not uncommon for me to get a little bit, but this was more than I’m used to. The worst part is that it was extremely difficult to get off with a q-tip. I almost had to go in with a makeup removing wipe to clean up my eyelid after finishing application. So, that alone was enough to put this in the “no” column for me. On the redeeming quality side, I really like the formula. It’s not too wet or dry, just right in the middle. It adds a good amount of volume, although I noticed more of a difference after the second coat. It left my lashes feeling soft and not weighed down, which is another plus in my book!

Maybelline Volum’ Express The Colossal Mascara

The first thing I noticed with this mascara was how bulky the applicator is. It didn’t cause me to transfer too much product onto my eyelid, but I had a harder time getting product at the root of my lashes. The formula was on the wet side, which I usually don’t like with a mascara. It is good for lengthening, but didn’t add a ton of volume. I wore it on a hot day and didn’t have any transfer, so that’s a big positive!

Rimmel Lash Accelerator Mascara

This was my least favorite of the bunch, by far. Between the applicator being a weird shape, the lack of lengthening or volumizing it did, and the fact that it transferred all over my eyes throughout the day. By mid-day, I had the raccoon eye effect, with black mascara lines under my eyes and some on my brow bone. I don’t feel like it really did anything for my lashes, so it’s one that I would pass on.
