Drugstore Concealer Comparison

In a continuation of my drugstore makeup comparison series, I’ve been putting some concealers to the test! Prior to this testing, I was pretty loyal to Tarte Shape Tape. Since expanding my horizons, I find myself reaching for a couple of these regularly, too!

e.l.f. Cosmetics 16HR Camo Concealer

Starting with this one because it was my favorite of the bunch! It is so similar to Shape Tape, that I find myself using these interchangeably. I find Shape Tape a little bit easier to blend in, but the coverage, staying power, and everything else is virtually the same! A little goes a long way, so start small and you can always add more, if you need to. Just like Shape Tape, I wouldn’t recommend this for dry skin.

Makeup Revolution Conceal & Define Full Coverage Concealer

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I like this concealer! Although it says full coverage, I found it to be much lighter in coverage than the e.l.f. concealer. It was easy to blend and felt hydrating. It didn’t crease on me, which is a big thing I look for in concealer. Because it’s lighter coverage, I find myself reaching for it on minimal makeup days when I just need a little bit of color correction and concealing under my eyes. I wouldn’t use it on a day that I was doing a full makeup look. I would say it’s fairly comparable to Tarte Hydrocealer.

NYX Can’t Stop Won’t Stop 24HR Full Coverage Matte Concealer

Like the name says, this is a very matte concealer. I like something a little more dewy for concealer, so that was the first thing I didn’t like about this. It has a nice formula and was easy to blend. I found it to offer light coverage. Due to the matte nature, it felt very drying to me. While I liked the coverage and brightening that it offered, I personally won’t use it.

FLOWER Beauty Light Illusion Full Coverage Concealer

I can’t stress enough how much I disliked this concealer. From start to finish, it was not a winner for me. The one thing I liked about it was that the formula was pretty thin and easy to apply. On the flip side, though, that made it super light coverage. After application, it didn’t really look like I had put anything on. By mid-day, much of it had settled into my creases or basically melted off my face. By the end of the day, it was as if I hadn’t put concealer on at all.

So, there you have it! Four drugstore concealers tested and reviewed. It was fun to try some new products and really nice to find a couple of concealers at better price points that I like to use!

I currently use and love the elf concealer! The one thing I hate is the bottle, as it constantly leaks. I store it standing up in my medicine cabinet because it will get everywhere in my makeup bag, but even standing up it leaks out! Wonder if anyone has this issue??

I also love the elf concealer. And can’t beat the price. I like it more than shape tape as shape tape is too drying for me. I do also have the issue where I need to make sure it is stored standing up or else it gets messy!

Elf knows what they’re doing, and at a basically unbeatable price point! I’ll have to try that concealer – I’m pretty loyal to It Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye, but ANY Elf product I’ve tried has been a great find!

Thanks Lauren! This was so good! Thanks to you I’m just getting into concealer for light makeup/mom days and love Tarte Hydrocealer. Although it took a while to find my exact shade match with Tarte (48N concealer/53S Hydroflex Foundation), I’m so happy I did. Did you have any trouble matching your shade with any of the concealers? The Revolution one looks promising for women of color like myself. I tried Elf and Nyx but didn’t love them as much as my hydrocealer!

I had a little trouble with the NYX concealer, but Elf and Revolution were easier to color match for me!

Lauren, you MUST try the Tarte Creaseless concealer! It has a beautiful, dewy finish, and it DOES NOT crease!

I use it! It’s a little heavy for my under eyes, but I love it for blemishes.
