Do you use area rugs in your home? They’re one of the best and easiest ways to “ground” a space. They can be the finishing piece that you need in a space, bringing together the styling of the room. If you have multiple colors at play in a room, a rug can serve as the common denominator with the different elements. They instantly warm up a space, both in adding comfort and in covering hard flooring that can be cold to the touch.
I used to use strictly neutral, geometric rugs, but am finding myself enjoying adding in a touch of color and different patterns. When the furniture or overall vibe of a room is very modern, I like to bring in a rug that isn’t modern, to add a layer to the feel of the room.
Here are a few examples of how I use area rugs in our home:
As far as using them in the space, I like to have about 6-12″ underneath whatever furniture is sitting on them, as well as some “overflow” on either side of the furniture. With couches, I usually just put the front legs on the couch, while the back legs are on the flooring.
