I can hardly believe I’m over halfway through this pregnancy already! The first trimester went by pretty slowly – both because I didn’t feel very good and also because I was counting down the days until I hit that 13-week mark. The second trimester, however, is flying by! Since I know a lot of you are pregnant or have been pregnant before and enjoy hearing others stories, I thought I’d share a little “midway through” update.
The biggest thing that’s happened since my first update, which you’ve probably seen already, is that we found out we’re having a boy! I definitely feel like I’ve connected with him a bit more since knowing one more piece of information about him. It’s nice to refer to him as “he” or “him”, instead of only saying “the baby”. I always knew I wanted to find out what we were having before the baby’s arrival, and that decision has been confirmed this go around. Especially for our first, it’s nice to be able to at least prepare a little bit, like buying him some clothes and things.
At 23 weeks, I’m just now starting to feel a little stress about getting things ready for him. I know I still have a lot of time and it will all be fine, but I also know that my energy level will likely decrease at the end of my pregnancy, so while I’m feeling good, I should seize the opportunity! I hate doing research, especially reading reviews online, so I’m going to have Mike be in charge of some of the bigger purchases and finding what we thinks will work best for us. Beyond that, I just want to make sure we have the essentials to get through the first week or so at home, while knowing that we can have family or ourselves run out to the store to get the things we realize we could use. I’d rather start with less and need to fill in some gaps than have a bunch of newborn/baby gear that we don’t ever use! By the way, I asked for your recommendations for must-have baby items on Instagram recently and the comments section is a treasure trove of information. If you’re expecting or know somebody who is, it’s a great resource!
Speaking of feeling good, I’m so, so thankful to be enjoying my second trimester so much. Feeling sick in the first was rough, but it honestly feels like a distant memory now. I’m grateful to only have some minor backaches sometimes, but otherwise have good energy, be sleeping pretty well, and able to go about my life with my little dude safely inside. I’m cherishing these good days and enjoying them as much as I can!
I think we have a name for him! I’ve felt very strongly that this name we have picked out was his name for quite awhile – it’s what I keep referring to him as in my head. Barring the discovery of a new name we haven’t thought of yet (we’ve gone through alllllll the lists), that will be it!
I’ve just started thinking through nursery styling and decor in the last week or so. Well, that’s not entirely true. I’ve had an idea of the kind of nursery I would like for awhile, but am actually sourcing items now. We would love to give baby boy a sibling in the future, so I like the idea of going with something neutral, in case we were to have a girl. Not to mention, I love neutral decor anyway, so it’s a pretty obvious choice. I love the idea of having lots of texture, like in the rug and light fixture, but keeping the color palette soft and cozy. I’ve always loved the animal themed nursery, so that will probably be the “theme” of his, although it won’t be overly themed. I’m looking forward to seeing it all come together and will definitely share it with you!
That’s about all the news there is to share – it’s been an uneventful trimester, in the best way, so far! Thank you for following along on my pregnancy journey and for being excited for us!
Love these pregnancy updates! So excited for you and your family!
Thanks, Erin!
Can’t wait to ‘’meet” your little man. Very happy for you.
Thank you, Gwen!
