It’s been awhile since I’ve shared a makeup tutorial, so I thought what better way to start off the new year than with a new makeup tutorial! I do this routine a couple days a week – other days I have zero makeup on, some of them I’ll use a little bit of under eye brightener and a swipe of mascara. I’m not a makeup guru or really all that into trying new products, but I’ve found the methods and products that are working well for me lately, so that’s what I’m sharing!
You can watch the video of me putting on my makeup on Youtube here.
Products used in the video, in order:
Primer
Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Mattifying Primer – as someone with more oily skin than dry, I really appreciate the mattifying aspect of this primer!
Foundation
Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation in Ecru 1N2 – this is a great full coverage foundation. I purchased the pump for easier use.
It Cosmetics Airbrush Blurring Foundation Brush #101 – I prefer a brush to anything else for foundation application. As you saw, I pump two pumps of foundation onto the brush and tap it into my skin. Once it’s pretty evenly applied, I will go in around my hairline, jawline, and neck to buff it and blend.
Concealer
Tarte Shape Tape Concealer in Fair – I like this for covering blemishes and brightening/evening my coloring on my face. It’s a bit too heavy for my preferences for under my eyes.
It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer in Light Nude – This is a great under eye concealer that is buildable and long-lasting.
Beautyblender – I use a damp beauty blender to blend in my concealer. Getting it damp is key! I just run it under warm water, squeezing it to make sure water is soaking all the way in, and squeezing it out before using.
Bronzer + Blush
Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow in Fair/Medium – This palette is pricey, but one of the most beautiful bronzers I’ve ever used! I also love NARS Bronzer in Laguna.
Angled Contour Brush – this one is similar to the one used in the video (which isn’t online).
Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour Blush in Exposed – One of the prettiest blushes, especially through the winter months.
Sephora Collection PRO Sculpting Blush Brush #99
Setting Powder
Becca Soft Light Blurring Powder in Golden Hour – This setting powder is really pretty and helps to lock in my foundation and concealer.
It Cosmetics Wand Ball Powder Brush #8 – I love this brush for applying my setting powder and clearing away any eyeshadow fallout under my eyes.
Highlight
Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow in Fair/Medium – The highlight in this palette is really pretty. Not too glittery at all, it adds a great pop for light to reflect off of.
Sephora Collection PRO Contour Brush #79 – I like the smaller tip to really direct where the highlight sits on my face.
Eyebrows
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Soft Brown – the key to a very natural looking brow is light, small strokes. Don’t draw lines or put too much product on right away. You want to build up the color/fullness, versus having to try to take it away if you use too much up front. You can see that I just do a bunch of tiny tick marks along my natural brow shape/lines, elongating the tails a little bit.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel – I love using a clear brow gel to lock in my pencil work, as well as making my brows look as full as possible.
Eyeshadow
Mac Pro Longer Paint Pot in Painterly – I was skeptical of the value of eyeshadow primer…until I started using it! Not only does it help the shadow last all day long, but it creates a great neutral base on the lid so that the colors will really present as they are in the palette and you’ll get more pigmentation out of them. You could also use a little bit of your foundation on your eyelids, or concealer. But just a little bit! You don’t want to use too much and cause creases or heaviness on your lid.
Sephora Eye Love Palette in Light/Cool – This is a great palette, especially for $14! I use the far left color as my all-over lid color, the top middle brown for the outer lid, and the bottom left shimmer for the inner corners and lower lash line.
All-over Eye Shadow Brush – This one is similar to the one I use in the video, which is no longer available.
Sonia Kashuk Wide Eyeshadow Brush – I like this fluffier brush to create a really natural smokey effect on the outer corner.
Sonia Kashuk Detail Blending Brush – A compact little brush for concentrating the shimmer shadow in the inner corner and along my lower lash line.
Eyeliner + Mascara
Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper Black – I’ve tried nearly every type of eyeliner out there and nothing beats a liquid eyeliner with a brush tip for me. It’s easy to apply (with some practice!), finishes smooth, and creates a really pretty look.
L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara Primer – I’ve only been using mascara primer for maybe 6 months-a year, but it makes a big difference! It adds volume and preps your lashes to better grip the mascara, meaning less changes of your mascara transferring to your upper or lower lid and less mascara needing to be used!
L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara – a fantastic drugstore mascara to add volume and length to your lashes! *I’ve never done anything to my lashes. What you see me do in this video, apply primer and mascara, is all I ever do!
Setting Spray
Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray – Love this to lock in my makeup and help it last all day!
What lipstick are you wearing? It’s really pretty!
I’m not wearing any lipstick in this video!
Lip color in your stories? And btw, you are beautiful!
Thank you. This was great to see. Thank you for product links and info.
And you make up is lovely. I’m nearly 60 and just now learning some of this! I appreciate the videos.
Glad it was helpful, Betsy!
Thank you for teaching how you do your inner eye shimmer! I tried for the first time today with the brush and shadow that you use and it looks great. Thanks again!
What do you put on your skin on days with no makeup?
