One of the many things that I love about the holiday season is the excuse to get glammed up a few times. As we all know, my everyday style and makeup is very casual, so having a holiday party or festive activity to get dolled up for is a fun change of pace! Whether you’ve got a Christmas party, NYE bash, or just want to step up your makeup game over the next couple weeks, I’m sharing two ways to do it. The first option is a simple look that anybody can do – no eyeliner, tedious eyeshadow blending, or fake eyelashes to put on. The second look I’m sharing is a bit bolder and a step above the first – it features a smokey eye and winged liner.
To create both makeup looks, I used products from Walmart. I’ve been buying beauty products from Walmart (mostly online) for the last several months and love it. They have a vast array of brands and price points and their shipping speed is hard to beat! I also love that I can buy everything I need in one place – no more hopping from website to website or store to store to get all the essentials. Here’s what I used for both of these looks:
- Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam Eyeshadow Palette
- Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eyeliner

- Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick, Red for Me
- and my go-to primer + mascara combo
The first look is a great option if you have very little time, don’t often wear a lot of makeup, or are going to a more casual setting where you just want a little something to perk up your face and lips. All I did was apply the Tempera from this palette all over my lid and up to my brows. Then I went in with a fluffy brush and dusted a little bit of Glistening, a pretty gold shade, just on my lid. I applied just one coat of mascara (I usually do two) and finished the look with a pop of red on my lips.
It’s a simple look that took me about 3 minutes to complete but instantly brightened up my face and made me feel pulled together. I love doing a bold lip with a simple eye – I think it makes even more of a statement than having both a bold eye and lip together.
If you like the simplicity of this, but wanted to elevate it a little bit, you could use a shimmer liquid eyeshadow to glam up your eyes. You could also add just a smudge of eyeliner along your top lash line to accentuate your lashes a bit.
For the glammed up version of this makeup look, I used the base that I started with on the first look and built upon it. I wanted to do a smokey eye, so I took an eyeshadow brush and smoked out the outer corner with Cyprus Umber. Then, there are two things that I always do with a smokey eyeshadow look – eyeliner and brightening the inner corners. If you want to instantly open and brighten your eyes, take a super bright shimmer shadow or powder and apply it to the inner corner of your eyes. It’s amazing the difference it makes when the light hits it! I prefer liquid eyeliner to a pencil, so I then took my liquid eyeliner and lined above my lash line, form about mid-lid to the outer corner. I love the drama of a winged eyeliner, so I pulled the line out a bit, following the natural curve that my eyelashes make when my eyes are opened.
To finish this look, I went in with a matte red lipstick to add a little more punch to my lips. I’m not a lipliner user, so I just carefully applied along my natural lip line and cleaned up any overages with a q-tip.
I finished with an extra coat of mascara on my top lashes to make them a bit more dramatic, too. If you like fake eyelashes, this look is basically screaming to have falsies added to it!
And that’s it! Two simple and approachable holiday beauty looks that you can easily recreate this season. There’s nothing quite like a red lip to make me feel like I can totally conquer the world. Plus, it’s so festive this time of year, so you kind of have to do it!
