We’ve officially moved into cold weather in Virginia, so I can finally share some SYC ideas for fall/winter clothes! Today’s featured item is a chunky knit or oversized cardigan. This style of cardigan has been around for a few years, but seems to be particularly popular this year. I like it, but it’s not something that will work for everyone! They can be shapeless and add too much bulk, so if it’s not the style for you, just swap the chunky cardigan for a fitted open-front cardigan and you’ve still got ideas to play with!
Casual Chic
If you’re a leggings or joggers girl for school drop-off, running errands, or whatever else, try adding an oversized cardigan to the next outfit you put together! I like the juxtaposition of leggings and sneakers against a cardigan that I would also wear out for date night – it’s a little unexpected, but still works together!

Weekend Wear
The easiest way to style a cardigan like this is with your favorite jeans, a tee or top, and some slides or booties. This is basically my fall uniform! If my base layer(s) is in the warm tones, I’ll pair a warm-toned cardigan with it. If it’s cool-toned, I’ll likely grab a grey cardigan. If it’s a solid, neutral color, I’ll add in some color with a dark green or pretty mauve option!

Date Night
An all-black outfit is a go-to for getting a bit more dressed up for me! To add this cardigan into the mix, I picked out similarly-toned heels and opted for a small black bag. When there’s a lot going on – lace-trim on the cami, heels, texture on the cardigan, and the chain on the bag, I like to keep the color palette more simple, so as not to have too many things happening and distracting from the overall outfit.

I do love a good chunky cardigan. I can’t believe sweater weather is here already, but these cozy sweaters are giving me life!
