A classic white popover (or button down) is something I think nearly every woman could use in her closet. There are so many ways to wear it, and it’s appropriate in any season! Throw a cute jacket or chunky knit cardigan over in the colder months and you’re good to go. I don’t do a lot of collared tops because they often feel kind of stuffy to me. I don’t feel completely myself in them, but I do love that they can add a level of sophistication to an outfit with very little effort! I put together three outfits that feel less work wear and more “me” with a classic white popover.
Casual Chic
I love that this outfit is the slightly fancier cousin of a classic jeans-and-a-tee outfit. Pairing my ripped jeans with this collared top elevates the jeans a bit. I added a belt and a pop of color for some thoughtful accessories to round out the whole outfit. You could easily dress this up a bit more with fun wedges or black jeans, instead!

*sizing information: I have narrow shoulders, so I sized down to an XXS for a more fitted look. I could also fit into an XS comfortably. I recommend going with your normal size for a roomy fit, or sizing down one, unless you’re broad shouldered or have a larger bust. The size charts are often very helpful!
Date Night
One thing I love about a popover (or bottom down) shirt like this is the ability to use it as a top layer over a dress! It’s a fun way to turn a dress into a skirt and to use the shirt in a different way. I think this would look best with a fitted dress/skirt, but wanted to play with a little bit of movement, so I chose this ruffle-hem midi dress. I tied a simple knot at the front of the shirt. If wearing a button down, you can leave the bottom one or two buttons undone and tie the two ends together in a standard knot!

Weekend Wear
One thing I love playing with is pairing more casual pieces, like denim cutoffs, with more refined things, like pointed toe mules and a collared top. They work well to balance each other out, not too casual, not too stuffy/office-like. To keep it fun, I added some statement earrings and a tote bag!
