When it comes to makeup products, clothes, and shoes, I love having options. It gives me the creativity to express how I’m feeling that day or choose what would be best for the occasion. I like walking into my closet or opening my beauty cabinet and being able to think through what I want to wear and use. In fact, there are few areas in my life in which I don’t want options. When it comes to wanting just one item to choose from, one of the few categories that applies to is the fragrance I wear.
I tend to find a scent that I love, purchase a bottle of it, and use it for as long as it takes me to get through it. It keeps things simple and I like the idea of having a “signature scent”. You know, that one perfume or fragrance that you wear so much that when friends or family members smell it on someone else or at a store, they instantly are reminded of you. In my mind, I can still smell the perfume that my mom wore when I was growing up and the one that my sister wore for years. I like those little, random reminders of the people I love! It’s special how memories can be tied to scents and smells. Like when I wear the perfume that I wore on our wedding day and my husband comments on how much he likes it, or when I get a whiff of a strong, masculine smell and am taken back to my high school days.
I’m picky when it comes to which types of perfumes that I like. I love the femininity of a floral scent, but can’t wear anything that is too strong or overpowering. It usually needs to be balanced out with an earthy or woody note. I’ll wear just about anything with coconut or that smells like the beach because it reminds me of relaxing vacations. I’ve been wearing the same perfume that I wore on our wedding day for the last year and a half and, while I love it, I wanted to add another fragrance family to the mix. The one I’ve been wearing is very light and citrusy, so I wanted something a little richer and more floral.
Oscar De La Renta Bella Blanca Eau de Parfum fits the bill to a T! It’s a gorgeous mix of florals, like freesia and jasmine, with a balancing note of sandalwood. When I first smelled it, it reminded me of the type of scent that my mom would love (she loves strong florals), but with a softness to it that allows me to comfortably wear it (I don’t love strong florals). It’s an elegant and feminine scent; created to represent the modern Oscar De La Renta woman. I put it on and Mike was quick to compliment how good it smelled. You can find the perfume at Ulta Beauty, in both the 1 oz. and the 3.4 oz. bottle. Speaking of the bottle, can we take a moment to appreciate how beautiful it is? I love when a perfume smells great, but also looks great sitting on my dresser. It’s like a multi-functional piece of decor!
I like the idea of this being my “signature scent” for this time in my life, which is a time that I want to remember. A time when I’m feeling settled, grounded, and content – truly enjoying the life that I’m sharing with my husband. And then, years down the road, when I smell this perfume or something similar, I’ll be reminded of it.
Do you have a signature scent? Is there a certain perfume or smell that, no matter what you’re doing or where you are, if you smell it, you’re instantly brought back to a moment in time or a period in your life? While purchasing a perfume is an investment in a fragrance, I like to also think that it’s an investment in future memories.
