My Travel Makeup Capsule

Since I recently shared the products that I bring with me when packing just a carry-on bag for traveling, I thought it would be fun and helpful to share the makeup products I bring in the same scenario. As I shared in the above mentioned post, I always try to make a carry-on bag work when flying, which means I need to be pretty selective with what I pack. It forces me to only bring the things that I need or think I will actually use, which is helpful as a serial over-packer.

My regular makeup routine features a few more palettes and brushes, but this gives you a really good idea of a sort of makeup capsule that I would travel with. The biggest help for me is having an all-in-one palette – eyeshadow, blush, bronzer, and highlight – because it takes up way less space than having all of those things individually. The rest of the products are my “necessities” – foundation, concealer, eyebrow products, and lash products. I like to pack as few brushes as possible, while stilling bringing along a brush that I use for each step in my routine.

When it comes to what I pack my makeup in, it depends a little bit on what I’m bringing. In this scenario, where I’m trying to pack as few products as possible while still having a full makeup routine with me, I opt for something this size. The biggest tip that I have for you, especially if you’re an over-packer, is to find a bag that is the right size for your suitcase. If you know that you’re packing quite a few pair of shoes, some bulky sweaters, or a lot of electronics, choose a smaller makeup bag that will easily fit into the packed suitcase. Once you find that bag that will fit, then fill it with as many of the products you want to bring as will fit. If you’ve picked out too many products for the bag, see what you can edit out to make it work.

There’s also an element of just knowing yourself. I know that, typically, I don’t wear a ton of makeup when traveling, so I can bring along a capsule like this and not feel like I left something important behind back home. I’d rather bring that extra pair of shoes or sweatpants for lounging. If you prefer to have all of your makeup, then know that you may have to edit out that one extra outfit you were bringing just in case.

What it really comes down to, for me, is packing the tried and true products that I use regularly and know that I love. The rest of it will be at home when I return!
