i love reading “day in the life” things like this. i’m always interested in how other people spend their day: what they prioritize, how they operate, and what they spend their time on. being that i work from home, i’m especially interested to hear how other work-from-home people schedule out their day, because every single person is different. some people keep strict “office” hours, others take it day-by-day. i’m somewhere in-between the two, with a routine that allows flexibility.
each day is different, but a typical workday looks something like this:
7am
wake up
7:30-8am
enjoy my coffee and some quiet time to prepare me for the day ahead. i prefer a leisurely start to my morning, than jumping in the shower right way and getting ready for the day.

8am
sit down at my computer and, if a blog post is going live that day, draft and publish the post, respond to emails and Etsy messages.
8:15am-10am
fill any outstanding orders for Elisabeth Ashlie, work on future blog posts, do inventory checks for the website and Etsy.
10am
make breakfast. i’m on a hard-boiled eggs and english muffin with peanut butter and nutella kick, in case you wondered 😉
10:15am-2pm
shoot new products, work on any website updates, make new jewelry — this is sort of whatever the day calls for.
2-3pm
head to the gym for a workout. it’s about this time that i either need to nap, have a second cup of coffee, or workout. most days, i choose the workout, although some days the caffeine follows the workout.
(pro tip: if you can afford it, i highly recommend getting a trainer at the gym. i enjoy working out, but have the hardest time knowing what i should be doing and how often. i end up doing the same six exercises and it becomes repetitive. i work out with a trainer once a week, which not only gets me to the gym, but also keeps me motivated for the rest of the workouts that week!)
this is typically what my office table looks like when i’m shooting new product. not glamorous. |
3:30-5:30/6pm
this is when i tie up loose ends from the day: add new products to the website or Etsy, follow up with blog post comments, respond to any new emails, etc.
6pm
lights out in the office (unless the day requires that i work later). for the longest time, it was so hard for me to separate work life from home life because they were one in the same. having a separate office with a door has transformed that for me. i’m able to leave work in the office, and relax in the rest of the apartment.
6:30/7pm
make dinner or make plans with Mike for dinner
evening
i’ll usually catch up on shows, run any errands, or do any other tasks like that
11pm
i’m rarely in bed later than 11pm. most days, i get in bed around 10 and watch a show or read a book. and then it’s lights out!

Thanks for sharing.. Loved reading this. Wish I could work from too. I try to get a million things done during the day and then head to work in the PM.
I love reading these types of posts. I find them interesting. 🙂
This is great! I just started my own Etsy Shop (nicolecowanscrafts.etsy.com) and still have a full time job aside from that. I would love to have my own website at some point. I love seeing how you manage your time and that you still have distractions too! 🙂
I am going to be working from home now too, and I'm so glad you posted this! I rarely know how to manage my time well and seeing this break down has really helped me 🙂 XOXO
